Apple’s machine learning locally analyses your photos but there’s no ‘off’ so its weird when you realize there’s a computer sitting through

Nope. This is reality. Google does it and has been doing it for years. As always, Apple is behind on the tech front. :)
For the very reason they have introduced it: to categorize and monetize their users, to profile them and target ads, simple as that.
also - false positive will be used to train the algoritms.
If you could look up your potential customers to see if they fit a certain profile who pays their bills etc, wouldnt you use that service?
Nope, you're just very naive when it comes to Apple and their business model :-) it's all about tracking and profiling users these days.
From the privacy policy[...] "We may collect, use, transfer, and disclose non-personal information for any purpose."
It is exceptionally naive to believe that Apple/Google is not going to monetize your user data. Do you also claim "I have nothing to hide"?
Heres an intelligence officer warning people not to share too much with FB and Google, same goes with Apple: goo.gl/UGrjNn

That's the best part of @googlephotos and why I upload to there. I gave up trying to organize my photos.
