Bluetooth and wifi works in airplane mode, but what looks suspicious is the missing wifi icon near the plane.

Yeah, except it's probably extremely fake. Most people have a hard time getting Airdrop working in the same room, won't work at 1000ft

Then it might be a phrasing thing. Pilots fly close to each other and share videos so cellular towers don’t get overwhelmed?!

I don't understand - why would the plane companies want to spend money on safety procedures to help the cell companies avoid problems?

Yep flightaware.com/live/ No security issue. You might harm the cell network's performance (your right to do so IMO). And drain battery.
