$6 on Ebay for an ESP8266 & a relay. Add a bit of code & you've got your own gadget to do this, & not tied to any company's server & whim

Yes but they can be solved for under $50 with an sbc + webcam + 433MHz dongle + a tiny bit of code. As a bonus, no goddamn cloud
