so....who is gonna save us? It's getting harder to avoid smart *everything*
There’s probably a billion dollar market in selling “dumb” appliances and housewares to people who don’t want “smart” ones. I’d start with a dumb TV, with no apps or anything that surveils your viewing to phone home to an ad network about what you’ve been watching.

I think TV’s not a great example (at least for me) but there’s literally nothing else in my apt. (minus phone and comp.) that I ever need to be connected to the internet. it’s nuts that half the coffee machines on the market are “smart” wtf.

I was unable to buy a dumb TV :(. So now I just bought a smart TV and kept it disconnected from the internet.

My "nice" TV is from ~2010. Any "smart" device I use with it is temporary and is typically disconnected when idle. Can you even get a non "Internet of Shit"/spyware TV anymore or do I have to replace this with a monitor?

A router which has a firewall with block rules about smart device communication sessions?

2 reasons why I still have a nearly 15 year old TV: 1. it still works; 2. I don't want a smart TV. Also a relative of ours recently had a message on their "smart" Sony TV saying BBC iPlayer would no longer support it from March. There's literally nothing wrong with their TV.

Just bought a new Bosch washing machine and managed to swerve the WIFI. Really there’s hardly anything in you’re house that needs to be connected to the internet. Everyone wants a bit of income from selling your data.

We’re going to have to have our heads frozen and stored in an internet fridge to await our glorious future.

Telescreens? Pppppppsh, hold my beer, not just your TV, it's your phone, fridge, AC unit, oven, microwave, alarm clock, next up is the smart toilet! 1984 was a cautionary tale, not a how-to!
