North America literally has its entire infrastructure built around cars, not people. Everything is super spread out and anything except motor vehicles on the roads are considered a nuisance.

it’s a constant issue in nyc. people go nuts when you suggest you’re going to put in a bike lane. nuuuuuuuts.

It's not just Twitter. Most of US society is absolutely infatuated with cars.

Nothing like being inside a sweet toxic cloud of Carbon.

They're just kinda required here. I've been carless for over a week now, and just maintaining my basic food and daily supplies is an /ordeal/. This city - most non-metropolis cities - wasn't made for walking. I'm in the "apartment block" zone. The "store zone" is way over THERE.

Just like german politics with the difference that we have stuff like trains and busses here (that work) so we really don't need it as bad 🤔

unfortunately Big Car really fucked it up for us in US and Canada in the mid century :/ they literally pulled out electric rail lines across Ontario as a result.

It's cold, it's hot, we travel long distances, on the rare occasions I can get friends into NYC, they're too racist to take the subways. /Stares at a map of NYC shootings... Ok, they *may* have a point on that during the Summer of Floyd.
