Samsung makes good TVs BUT you should avoid them: after a while, ads that can't be removed start appearing in system menus. flatpanelshd.com/news.php?su…

@Samsung TVs are a piece of 💩 Mine lags so much it gets me on my nerves. And the browser is good for nothing.

This is why we need 100% open source and "open" hardware. I live an ad-free life mostly (palemoon + ublock origin). I would feel abused if I'd pay a lot for a TV that is essentially an advertisement station for "content" I have no interest in.

not that it should be needed but a well configured pihole sorts this

As someone who (has) own(ed) multiple models of Samsung TV, the best way to handle this is to literally never allow it to connect to the Internet. All of the necessary functionality and none of the BS.

Not an 'average' solution, but is the DNS hardcoded? #PiHole

Why are we shocked that a category of products that attracts millions/billions of eyeballs is catnip to advertisers and thus a rich potential revenue stream to product manufacturers?

You can block access to the Samsung ad servers using your router. Then the ads are gone.

I got a QE65Q85 last year. and now im getting bombarded with ads after the update. The TV also installed Disney+ without me want it to. I think this is illegal in some lands. Going to talk to The Norwegian Consumer Agency and hear what they have to say about this.
