Would be nice. Think about requiring the same of everything in life. How do we recycle polyester shirts again? They should be (1) PETE but they're not.

Excuse me? Any company that intentionally bricks a consumer product should be liable for a) the full purchase price or b) the price of a current equally specced device, at the consumers choice. Thats the minimum level of consumer protection to even consider.

there's got to be some consumer protection law against remote deactivation, because you've bought something, for money, and now the manufacturer's decided it no longer works. imagine that happening to your car "can't come in to work today, Ford decided my car is unsupported"
