People need to get used to subscription pricing, because this stuff runs on software/firmware that needs constant updating. “But that’s not how I think of buying a lightbulb!” Well maybe you should, if you expect lightbulbs to do things like change colors by talking to them.

When you buy smart device and then the company demands payment that was not disclosed at time or purchase or device no longer functions as advertised, it's basically fraud and suits should be filed accordingly.
