why the fuck doesn't it just close the door itself if it's so smart

"but wait that would cost so much because you need a motor and stuff" let me tell you about the cost of building an app and running servers: lol

While the fridge informs the owner of the door, it informs vendors of the need for replacement goods. Does the haggling and keeps the profit.

I imagine this requires a 200mb+ app on your phone with access to camera, microphone, contacts (so you can share your fridge's door status on social media) and last but not least, your location.

And what if you left it open, went to you shopping bag to get more stuff to fill the fridge. You would be rather cross if it closed the door itself when you arrive with stuff in both your hands.

Why would you want to do the hard work when you can ping a biological to do it for you?

Why doesn't it just beeps when you do not close it properly? You are just there. What's the need to connect to the Internet and send an alarm to your phone while you ate standing besides the refrigerator?

Because the motor, along with controls, safety, collision avoidance, etc is a lot more expensive than to read out the state of a sensor you already put in to turn on the light.
