But with some empathy (and often a case of beer and box of doughnuts) and some perspective on what I’ve seen work that helps them with achieving their mission - they light up - and we get real work done. If you want to get work done in security, learn empathy first

If the class next door was rowdy, I’d agree on a hand-signal with my class that meant they should break into “spontaneous” laughing, cheering, cat-calls, etc. Then I’d throw the hand sign a few times per day. Neighboring instructors would always ask me for my “secret”.

Sometimes it’s better not to take the opportunity to say “I told you so” even if you were right before. Sometimes it’s better to silently acknowledge yourself, and put your work boots on.

Folks, one of my middle names is Nóirín (Noreen) after the landlady who took pity on my father in Hull, UK where he was an international student in 1961-2. Her name was Noreen Clarkson. I would love to find her or her descendants if anyone can help while my Dad is alive.

Look at the people you love. If you want them to be around in a few decades, learn to love the rest of the world like your family. Then work together with them as a family.

Global problems require global thinking and global solutions. The tribal leaders who led us into this mess are not the people who are going to solve things.
