Tonight I intend to continue my unbroken streak of falling asleep well before anybody else in my house, and well before midnight. Party hearty, my friends!

You have a lot of material now. Later you won’t. We learned this on blog.commandlinekungfu.com the hard way.

These days it seems like colleges are looking at weighted GPAs. Some don’t, but it seems like most do.
So yes, the double-standard for women is alive and well. Successful women have to constantly work harder than their male colleagues. But competition for college placement is also driving our kids stark raving bonkers. 5/5

Do the math on a 4.7 GPA and figure out how many AP classes that is. I can assure you my daughter has—she’s asked me to help her game out several GPA scenarios for the rest of her high school career, and she’s only a sophomore. 4/n

How do you get a GPA above 4.0? “Honors” classes in many schools give a +0.5 “weighted GPA” bump, and AP classes are +1.0. So an A in AP Chem is worth 5.0 and Honors Chem is 4.5. The top 10 GPAs at my daughter’s school were 4.7+. 3/n

In an age of grade inflation, a “perfect” GPA—something ABOVE 4.0–has become the minimum bar for being accepted into the better colleges and universities. College-bound kids have internalized this. 2/n

I’m in full agreement with @tarah when it comes to the question of professional certification. But the issue of perfectionism in grade school kids—boys and girls—is something else entirely. 1/n

I read a lot of “I’m looking for an infosec job” tweets. Ensure you post location(s), what you’re looking for, and give context of background/skills. Hiring managers follow up with those that provide context. You’d be surprised how many are willing to help. #infosecjobs

Extract Malware Configuration with MalConfScan by @jpcert_en. I first saw this as a "POC", but then realized that detecting even a minimal set of the most common implants will find a massive number of attacks. There is an amazing lack of diversity in RATS buff.ly/2OwHIJl

Happy #WinterSolstice! To celebrate, we collected an image per day over the last year from #GOESEast, taken at 1200 UTC, and looped them together. You can really see how the seasons change from #equinox to #solstice due to the #Earth's 23.5° tilt.

On this winter solstice I am reflecting on how I can bring more light into my life and the lives of those around me. Make 2020 your best year yet!

Good tip of my colleague: This is how you can recognize 64 bit code wrongly interpreted as 32 bit code. It has lots of dec eax instructions because 0x48 is also used to signify 64 bit operand size. (32 bit interpretation is first picture, 64 bit second)

Apple renamed iOS Security Guide to Apple Platform Security Guide, and a new version has just been published. There is a lot of new content, and the PDF is now 157 pages long (up from 94). This is a must-read. PDF: manuals.info.apple.com/MANUA… Web: support.apple.com/guide/secu…
