Why do Macs suck so badly at dealing with external monitors? Why do I have to do this ridiculous dance every morning to get my screen to wake up when the Mac is in clamshell mode?

I especially love when I close my MacBook lid and the secondary monitor persists with the desktop it was showing while I was working. All around awesome. Completely agree, I fight monitors constantly w Mac.

What fixed it for me was unchecking "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use" under mission control. The setting below have eliminated the issue 99% of the time.
