I want to find fault with this. The unfortunate reality is that if you're willing to take the risk of prison, crime does indeed pay.
Uncomfortable truth, a skilled knowledgable hacker can earn 10x his or her salary expectations in industry joining a ransomware operation and/or providing services on the black market. Industry deliberately pushes hackers convicted of computer crimes towards such groups.
