Not only exhausting and stressful, but also requires a substantial body of knowledge, acquired through both training and experience, in order to be successful. There are few of us because the barriers to entry are high.

senior incident leaders are rare, you can look on Twitter or LinkedIn and find a handful of us. partly bc the work is exhausting and stressful. but it Hella pays the bills.

Is it also because the role has a certain unpredictability to it? I imagine being permanently on call to have to jump and go somewhere unexpected (at least pre covid) is tough for family life.

I worry that when I speak of my role, that folks will feel likes it's gatekeeping. for me, it's hard to articulate the body of knowledge between technical, business, communications, strategy. we wear so many hats which may not be realistic for alot of folks.
