It’s okay to always be an individual contributor and never manage humans. In fact, if you are bad at managing humans, hearing about personal issues, dealing with team disputes and poor performers, or reviewing performance effectively, please seek training or do not become one.

I became a “lone eagle” consultant because there was no long-term career path for ICs in any org I worked for. Consulting brings its own non-technical challenges into the mix, but they are ones I prefer to managing people.
