Follow-up ethical question to the one asked this morning: if you have geolocation data on all your corp issued phones, should you be searching location data on January 6th to determine if any corp owned devices were at the Capitol (or other state Capitol Buildings)? Why/why not?

Cool. Now how about I search your corporate device to determine if you are attending AA or NA meetings? Even if you are in recovery you are potentially a risk to the organization.

Well not if I relapse and begin taking controlled substances. My point is, be careful the precedents you set. You don't always get to pick "good" vs "bad" in these situations.

One of the societal problems I worry about is our growing surveillance state. Authorities use extreme cases (like insurrectionists pillaging the Capitol) to pass laws that also allow them to track behaviors that should not be tracked or criminalized.
