The US government’s PPP is a sham. It has loopholes allowing large hospitality chains to claim individual locations at separate small businesses and reap millions in loans. It’s just a huge bailout for them masquerading as help for small business.

In order for PPP loans to be forgiven by gov, at least 75% must be used for payroll. The remaining amount can only be used for rent/mortgage/utilities. The point of PPP is to keep people on payroll, so they keep getting a paycheck. 1/

I'm not saying PPP program is perfect by any means. But I'll also argue that the cooks, servers, and dishwashers at chain restaurants need a paycheck just as much as the staff at a local diner so. 2/

And while I'm not familiar w/ the workings of some of the chains being raked through media over this, at least locally the one chain I know of that got PPP is a franchise w/ local owners & local employees who will keep getting paid for at least 8 weeks. 3/

It's highly likely that there will be a 2nd round of PPP loans & it looks like Dems will be successful in carving out at least $60b of next round specifically to very small & minority owned businesses. /done

$60b... which would be less than 10% of the total amount allocated
