All I know is that I make a fair amount of money doing IR on those servers when they are found to be hosting coin miners.

Why do Macs suck so badly at dealing with external monitors? Why do I have to do this ridiculous dance every morning to get my screen to wake up when the Mac is in clamshell mode?

This whole thread is gold, but I love the message here most of all. There are many jobs we are not a fit for. This has nothing to do with our value as people.

Completely wrong framing. It's about being a fit for the role, not "good enough." It's a weird, weird role that's not for everyone, or even most people. "Not a fit" says nothing whatsoever about someone's value or skill.

Is a sense of mission important to you in your work life? Does your current job give it to you?

My morning wish for all — that you find love, acceptance, and safety.

I’ve become quite a fan of the 3M Aura N95 masks. It’s obviously a personal fit thing, but I find them comfortable for prolonged wear.
I did a quick test of masks for upcoming events like @DEFCON. Verdict: throw out your old cloth/surgical masks and get behind-the-head (instead of behind-the-ear) N95 masks that fit well. cybersect.substack.com/p/fac…

Hello Chicago, you toddlin’ town. Spending the week on the Riverwalk and free most evenings if folks want to meet up.
Oh I like this very much!

Criteria for picking good restaurants while traveling: 1. Is it “line out the door” busy? 2. Do the patrons belong to the same ethnic group as the food?

And this point is fundamentally why I switched from doing operational infosec work to incident response. Trying to effect change left of boom was burnout inducing. So I’ll see you all when you get to the right.

Hey Chicagoland friends, I’ll be in town next week working for a client in the Loop. Evenings should be free if anybody is down for a meet-up.

FWIW I use non-stick muffin pans with a spray of canola oil. Muffins pop right out when finished.
I'm a family IT technician and people want me to do IR!

Happy Bobby Bonilla Day to all the Mets (and Orioles) fans out there! nypost.com/2022/07/01/happy-…
Hi I’m Hal. I’ve got a bad attitude and I am not a “team-player”. (said to me by exploitative management when I called them on their BS)
Introduce yourself with the wildest feedback you’ve ever received. I’ll go first: “Hi I’m Amy. I’m too ambitious 🤝”

I’m weirdly happy that IRC bots are making a comeback
We observed notable updates to the long-running malware campaign targeting Linux systems by a group known as the 8220 gang. The updates include the deployment of new versions of a cryptominer and an IRC bot, as well the use of an exploit for a recently disclosed vulnerability.
