One of the societal problems I worry about is our growing surveillance state. Authorities use extreme cases (like insurrectionists pillaging the Capitol) to pass laws that also allow them to track behaviors that should not be tracked or criminalized.

Well not if I relapse and begin taking controlled substances. My point is, be careful the precedents you set. You don't always get to pick "good" vs "bad" in these situations.

Cool. Now how about I search your corporate device to determine if you are attending AA or NA meetings? Even if you are in recovery you are potentially a risk to the organization.

I’m aware that this advice flies in the face of decades of sleep research. But guess what? You are not a test subject and the world is not a sleep lab. You are your own person, and I love you. And you are OK, even if your sleep is chaotic right now. /fin

Play video games, watch a show, follow random paths through Wikipedia articles. Whatever. The point is to not bemoan the fact that you are awake at odd hours with an active mind. Embrace it and take the extra time as a gift. 4/n

My best advice to you is simple—just embrace the situation you find yourself in and roll with it. Want to just lie in bed and let your mind wander? I’m with you. Want to read technical white papers or fiction or comics or smut? You do you. 3/n

I used to get really stressed about not sleeping at the “proper” time or not getting “enough” sleep. But this is ultimately self-defeating and just makes you more strung out and tired. 2/n

As somebody who has spent much of my adult life traveling the world, I have a lot of personal experience with sleeplessness and odd sleeping schedules. These days, the stress of what’s going on in the world is making me (and others I suspect) keep odd hours. 1/n

Shhhh! Don't tell the juniors! They're not nearly cynical enough for this news yet.

Interesting note, I went to the same undergrad as Peter Weinberger-- 20 years after he did. I've met him at alumni reunions. Nice fellow who tolerated my awk-ward humor.

Old-school Unix trivia question: Where does the command-name "awk" come from?

Wow. Teaching a Linux DFIR class today and it hit me that I have been working professionally with Unix and Unix-like systems for 35 years. Holy smokes!

For the morning crowd. Any more suggestions?
I often get asked for a good "Intro to Linux" book. What is your favorite, and why?

Earlier post circulating about Parler data being obtained via security vuln may have been a false flag. Archivists say they just used Parler’s API along with the fact that stored content used sequential URLs. mashable.com/article/parler-…
