We’re annual pass holders but have not tied a credit card to our Magic Bands. I agree that it’s just too easy to spend that way.

The Disney MagicBand is an RF emitter with a range of about 50 feet. With sensors all over the parks, they can track lost kids, manage crowd flows, etc. But it’s also a preview of the modern panopticon.
