Thanks to all who responded re: my broken surround sound receiver. Good mid-range units available for $350, repair doesn't seem worthwhile.
My (10+ yr old) Kenwood surround sound receiver is suddenly a surround silence emitter. I am sad. Repair or replace, that is the question...
