Never underestimate the power of going away and thinking about something completely different (even slacking) when stuck on coding problems.
@stevie_chambers Don't know where they got it from. My friend Jim Hickstein introduced the idea to me in the mid-90's.
@stevie_chambers usually my FQDNs are just host.physloc.company.com, often using airport codes for physloc (short and unique)

@mmurray @quine Printer security would be a good thing to create a web "how-to" document about (ala the CIS Benchmarks)
@stevie_chambers I'm inclined to encode rack location in the CMDB b/c I think rack subdomains are too granular. YMMV.

@mmurray "Secure your printers"-- sounds good in theory, but what practical steps do you suggest? particularly for normal home users...
@stevie_chambers Heh, that's maybe too much subdomaining, but I guess that's what the "search" option in resolv.conf is for... :-)
!@stevie_chambers et al, Also use geographic sub-domains to make it easier for users to find local resources, e.g. mail.SFO.mycompany.com
