New house quirk: the washing machine and dryer are out in the shed, and there's no way to tell when they're done. Naturally, I rigged up a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with a ZeroCam to take photos & analyze if they're on or off. It also sends push notifications, obviously.

With the degree almost over decided learn TLA+/PlusCal in my spare time by proving a simple mutual exclusion algorithm in distributed systems. Started reading the tutorial and immediately got stuck on the second exercise.
And that's the end of that chapter.

In Scala's earlier days disagreements were in private as naiveté removed the possibility of malice from the wrongdoers, but once patterns emerged community got divided and controversies ensued.
Sad to see Rust is going through the same, especially as it's regarded as a refuge.

It's a shame not only that books like goodreads.com/book/show/6033… aren't being written anymore, but they're also out of print with no digital version to be found. And sadly the used ones are prohibitively expensive.

I've been using Linux for more than twenty years now, but I honestly can't reliably configure a global DNS over TLS on a laptop that regularly changes connections. I used to find such experiences humbling, but now just outright annoying.
