Critics are an important part of society’s immune system against wasting resources. To be effective, their ferocity ought to be proportional to resource investment, without regard to society’s benefit from success. Means the most important endeavors will be the most criticized.

So if that's true, should we be more careful to engineer systems that amplify the immune-reaction, to avoid auto-immune disease? How might we measure that ferocity? How might this inform how we design future social media. Maybe cc @jack?

True.However ideally the majority, if not all of the criticism should nudge us in the direction of progress. Recent criticisms against large language models by “notable” critics seem to entirely miss a key objective of LLMs -explore/push the boundaries of learning from pure text.
