Kinda funny that @GaryMarcus has a problem with the title of "Solving Rubik's Cube with a Robot Hand" for a result that literally involves a robot hand solving a Rubik's cube.

I will say again that the work itself is impressive, but mischaracterized, and that a better title would have been "manipulating a Rubik's cube using reinforcement learning" or "progress in manipulation with dextrous robotic hands" or similar lines.

I've got no skin in this robotics game. But I do think you should clearly delineate between the underlying Kociemba algorithm which provides the "solution" and your system which learnt how to manipulate the cube.

It's possible to mislead with statements that are technically true! When you say "We've trained [...] neural networks to solve the Rubik's Cube with a human-like robot hand," many readers will feel let down to later hear about the solving algorithm and the cube being instrumented

I thought it was perfectly clear that the point of this research was the robotic control, which has been historically an extremely difficult AI problem.

When a human says they can solve a Rubik's cube, they usually only mean that they can follow the steps of a cube-solving algorithm, not that they figured out how to solve it themselves. I think OpenAI's phrasing was fine.

if you redefine "solving", sure,

Doesn't matter how you describe it.... impressive as hell.

great achievement, no doubt. big fan of openAI, though title is actually pretty much a clickbait. next one would be "Car, that can drive you to work"... but u have to control the steering wheel ?
