Data Science. TileDB. Open Source. Quant Research. R. C++. Debian. Linux. Adjunct Clinical Professor, University of Illinois. Lots of coffee. And some running.
One of the hardest decisions of my career. I'm proud of the team for taking it so well. I'll be offline for the foreseeable future (bad internet connection), but hope to resume our work in Q4!
Because of the risks of having such a powerful system, the @modal_labs product will suspend all development for six months. The team will be paddleboarding in Tahiti until October 2023.

“We are NOT First Republic Bank,” Republic First Chief Executive Officer Thomas Geisel wrote in a letter on the company’s website.

And today, for good measure, as we just had the daily repository update. Screenshot also shows the `wajig update` step and speed (4s as I am lucky enough to have fiber) #rstats#r2u
Another hidden gem when using `apt` to get your CRAN packages for #rstats via #r2u?
Paired with a stateful (meta) package manager such as `wajig` by @KayonToga, you get easy views of "what is new". Screenshot is from laptop from yesterday.
We are announcing TileDB-SOMA v1.0, a big milestone for the single cell community. TileDB and @cziscience collaborated on the design and implementation of an open data model and API spec, enabling cloud-optimized analysis of large single-cell datasets. hubs.la/Q01JtYFV0
It can be. It all depends "where you go to play".
Below is a gif showing `install.packages("tidyverse")` on Ubuntu -- getting you all binaries, and all dependencies, automatically, reliably, fast. It just works. See eddelbuettel.github.io/r2u/ for more. #rstats#r2u
3 things:
1) My new #RStats package `tinysnapshot` is out! cran.r-project.org/web/packa…
2) Thanks to Mark for his awesome `tinytest` and `validate` 📦
3) Thanks to the CRAN team who gave me super helpful pointers for this (and other) pkg releases
#rstats package 1.2.3 'validate' is on CRAN now
- Fixes and other small improvements
Cheers to the CRAN team for their relentless efforts to maintain a high standard of quality!

Sure!!
R-release and R-devel are merely the R interpreter you choose.
And that choice is orthogonal to the repo: you can run `RD CMD check` against #r2u binaries and take advantages of its key features. (And all those r2u binaries were made by r-release.)
#rstats
Today in timezone madness: Lebanon had a last minute announcement of DST postponement. The Olson database complied. Now there is a dispute if it happens, and *parts* of the government reversed it. The country now has two timezones concurrently depending on who you ask.
More fun with #r2u and r-universe: Installing #rstats package dev versions _as binaries_ in Ubuntu.
Today's example is @duckdb (dev version) 8.0.0.
In 24s #r2u (via `bspm` by @Enchufa2 ) resolves need for CRAN package `DBI` as #r2u binary and fetches @duckdb universe build.
New #r2u feature: Install r-universe 'jammy' binaries with full resolution of binaries from #r2u .deb binaries!
Quick example installs `tiledb` from r-universe (a micro release ahead of CRAN) in 27s, all binaries, using a new `littler` helper script. #rstats
Fast or slow for #rstats CI?
In Jan I blogged about a comparison between the exact same thing "tiny" (via `RPostgreSQL`, few depends) or "tidy" (`RPostgres`, more).

Waiting is a choice.
Within minutes of the release of the #umbra open data program, we used TileDB Cloud to create temporal stacks of #SAR imagery that can be shared and analyzed. This example uses TileDB’s powerful cloud-native, analysis-ready format. cc @mouthofmorrison
