Data Science. TileDB. Open Source. Quant Research. R. C++. Debian. Linux. Adjunct Clinical Professor, University of Illinois. Lots of coffee. And some running.
And if you are lucky enough to be on a system that uses @Debian / @Ubuntu packages, I have an an unofficial ("binary-all" and no dependencies) font package here for you: github.com/eddelbuettel/pkg-…
The @FiraCode font has some lovely ligatures for your R code -- arrows, inequality, and more as smooth, single glyphs. Here's how to use it in @rstudio! #rstats
A reminder that #rstats 3.5.0 is currently in beta and enters Code Freeze on Monday. I.e., bugs not discovered within this week WILL appear in the released version. So do test it if you want to have an influence on it.
Last update: Finding index of a needle in a haystack - 10 solutions in #rstats.
Unless someone breaks out GPU or AVX512 code, I'll likely never speak of this again :)
Bigger benchmark: #Rcpp best over a wide range of needle/haystack lengths.

Extending R: my talk at tonight's Chicago R User Group meeting; slides now at goo.gl/dZnpyV
This was at the new home @jeffersontap1 -- my thanks to the ChiRUG for settings this up. Folks were either excessively kind, or maybe the talk went well indeed.
I find it strangely satisfying to click "I don't like this ad" for every ad Twitter puts in my feed. I like to imagine that there's a finite number of ads in the Universe, and after I have expressed my displeasure at the lot, I'll live an ad-free and joyful life.
As @joshua_ulrich would say: "lightweight is the right weight".
Keep your dependencies down, keep it simple (enough) and make sure it works.

Thanks for the edits and review @eddelbuettel. If others want to read (and give feedback! via git PRs please) DM me your github handle and I can add you to the repo. Also, if u might use this book while teaching lmk; working with publishers on ancillary materials and want help.
Most exciting data science book I have read in some time: "Modern Business Analytics" by @MattTaddy : current, modern, accessible, rigorous, awesome.
Near-final draft out later this year; my commits may have fixed some typos. Content below as teaser---but you've got to read it.
