Not alchemy, just careful use of standard recipes:
For 1) and 2) you want to learn about the -v and -w switches to Docker.
For 3) as _you alter the container_ you need to write it out again which `docker commit` does.

Ran within sight of him during one or two of my Boston (where everybody is pace-sorted), and he was of course not only a generation older than me, but pushing his son in the runner-chair. Made it look effortless. Beyond impressive.
