Data Science. TileDB. Open Source. Quant Research. R. C++. Debian. Linux. Adjunct Clinical Professor, University of Illinois. Lots of coffee. And some running.
A monumental achievement that was years in the making. (See @eddelbuettel's recent UseR! talks.)
Huge thanks to #GSoC2020 student Yashwant Singh Parihar for #rstats binding work, #MLPACK authors, Ryan Curtin and Marcus Edel for the GSoC slot, & @GoogleOSS for funding.
MLPACK on CRAN!!
Congratulations to (twitterless) Ryan Curtin and GSoC student extraordinaire Yashwant Singh Parihar for bringing MLPACK to #Rstats!
Some of us (@kkusingR, @axiomsofxyz, ...) tried before, and it is superb to see this come through.

RC test help needed: Eigen 3.3.9 came out yesterday; the @mcmc_stan#rstats folks nudged me to update (to 3.3.8, overdue). So if you use RcppEigen, please test it via the #Rcpp drat:
Rscript -e 'install.packages("RcppEigen", repos="rcppcore.github.io/drat")'
It's somewhat orthogonal to yours as you went towards `r-devel` (which we offer pre-made as you showed); this one veers towards "g++-devel". Connecting both endpoints for r-devel under gcc-11 is left, as we are wont to say, "as an exercise to the reader(s)". Both of them.
Hearing really smart people talk about reaching 500,000 dead Americans by March is just the worst. Because you know they're right. And you know so much of it was avoidable.
Yep, indeed the fastest JSON parser by some margin.
But credit where credit is due: @knapply_ did all the juicy bits in the #Rstats package building the work by @lemire , @jkeiser2 and others after I had just put together the basic #Rcpp framework.

What's cooler than docker? Rocker! 👩🎤
The rocker project provides a ton of r-based docker images, ranging from bare bones to ready for publication or geospatial analysis. Thank you @cboettig, @eddelbuettel and @noamross for your awesome work!

Reminder: open-source projects are not a source of free technical support. If there is no documentation, offer to write some. If some function is missing, offer to write it. Do not demand that functionality be added, that documentation be provided… unless you are willing to pay.
inline 0.3.17 on CRAN: Refactored, and new tests
Inline C, C++ and Fortran programs with ease in your R code

Now with much improved ability to store and reload compiled C functions thanks to @JohannesRanke#rstats
PSA: If you are working on a pull request, and not using the *magic* functionality of @magit_emacs that is `magit-checkout-pull-request` via C-g b y followed by the _pull request issue number_ then ... you are likely doing it wrong.

"Caught you" posting and deleting a link to @Infinityssong yesterday--and but I have been binging these folks since. Their covers are pure gold. I'll check out the EP.

Here is a 'peek' recording of that demo (w/o middle cmd for brevity / gif size limit):
$ docker run --rm -ti rocker/r-bspm:20.04
# apt update -q
# R
> install.packages("tidyverse") # 86 secs
> library(tidyverse)
#rstats
And the 'live demo' was (in rocker/r-bspm:20.04)
$ apt update -q; apt upgrade -y
$ R
> install.packages("tidyverse")
which goes in two+ minutes from 'empty' Ubuntu 20.04 with R to tidyverse installed with 100 packages.
And no tears.
See slides.

Recommended -- that should be good! I will miss it as I will be talking at the same time to the Cologne RUG about @Docker and the #RockerProject -- but I will be sure to check out the recording afterwards.
