All I knew about @nxthompson, whom I never met, was that he was about my age, had a demanding journalism job and somehow still became a ranked marathoner. But, ironically, he never told his own story until now. Just wow. wired.com/story/marathon-spe…
And the rocker/r-base:4.0.0 image (based on @Debian testing plus experimental plus a small PPA of mine with R 4.0.0 compatible packages for r-recommended) is now live.

New #Rcpp record: Used by every other compiled CRAN #Rstats package.
I.e. we now have 50% coverage among packages using compiled code. And a little under 1/8th of all CRAN packages.
[Note: So far didn't exclude dupes which CRAN has e.g. pre-release, will fix going forward.]
The R 4.0.0 source packages for @Debian are uploaded.
The transition from 'experimental' into @Debian proper will take time; 'rocker/r-base:4.0.0' will be up once we have .deb binaries.
And @Ubuntu builds of R 4.0.0 for 18.04, 19.10 and 20.04 are in my ppa:edd/r-4.0.

We have made the disappointing decision to cancel #useR2020 in St. Louis. This has been in process for several weeks, but we have not been able to share details publicly until today. We've appreciated the #rstats community's patience as we've worked on this. 1/5
CRAN is currently in the process of migrating the default toolchain for R 4.0 on Windows to the new rtools40 (gcc-8). There may be a bit of disruption while everything is being synchronized...
