Picking dependencies matters. Sometimes change is unavoidable, but selection of tools is part of good design.
Eg @CRANberriesFeed runs (by now hourly) for close to thirteen years, and I never have to touch the (base R + RSQLite) code.
Thanks to the @metoffice@informatics_lab for their fantastic collaboration in their evaluation of TileDB for cloud-ready geoscience data. Check out @_DPeterK_'s blog here tinyurl.com/rxrkew6. Handling 1000s of NetCDF files into a single logical array was no small feat.
And just ... wow.
Look at the API using Modern C++ on the left, and the output on the right. Not only faster than everything else but now also expressive.
