,@JamesToll: As always, it depends. See eg gallery.rcpp.org/articles/si… -- it can be very close. Rcpp sugar helps, as do proper abstractions.

.@hadleywickham: It is "permitted" as some packages have used Boost for ages, incl my RQuantLib. There is even an env var in Windoze.
