Yes I know I can just #reticulate but I'm trying not to have additional installs to keep track of in my application.

You can try qlcal: I abstracted the (time-tested) operators out of QuantLib do have a lighterweight #rstats package just for (business/exchange) calendaring. github.com/qlcal/qlcal-r
