A question to my peers and #rstats experts: are there any good tutorials/resources on including an external (non-R) dependency in your R package (like in the magick package)? The dependency is open source, available on Github, and must be compiled.

That is a rich topic in its full generality (do you need to compile the resource or not?) when reflecting the full set of OSs (windows can be tricky).

Going with external compilation is the most difficult package setup. But it is possible. #rstats
