Biggest pain in switching from Windows to Linux with #RStats ... case-sensitive file names. I never cared before ... and I now I'm made to care.

Mostly because of the increased speed and capacity I get for free on the same hardware with #RStats. For my kind of work, I get a free 20-30% speed boost. And parallel computation is much better and uses much less memory.

Yup but that only works on supported releases. Since I'm running a slightly bleeding edge Ubuntu 21.04, it doesn't, so I have to compile from source. But for my 20.04 office machine it's great. In general though compilation time is not such a big deal relative to the benefits.

You can always take advantage of binaries from a LTS release on a newer releases---so you have a choice of both RSPM (per Grant) or BSPM (my pref, using the PPA) for pre-made binaries making installation faster and easier.
