Here is a 'peek' recording of that demo (w/o middle cmd for brevity / gif size limit):
$ docker run --rm -ti rocker/r-bspm:20.04
# apt update -q
# R
> install.packages("tidyverse") # 86 secs
> library(tidyverse)

And the 'live demo' was (in rocker/r-bspm:20.04)
$ apt update -q; apt upgrade -y
$ R
> install.packages("tidyverse")
which goes in two+ minutes from 'empty' Ubuntu 20.04 with R to tidyverse installed with 100 packages.
And no tears.
