Sure!!
R-release and R-devel are merely the R interpreter you choose.
And that choice is orthogonal to the repo: you can run `RD CMD check` against #r2u binaries and take advantages of its key features. (And all those r2u binaries were made by r-release.)
#rstats
More fun with #r2u and r-universe: Installing #rstats package dev versions _as binaries_ in Ubuntu.
Today's example is @duckdb (dev version) 8.0.0.
In 24s #r2u (via `bspm` by @Enchufa2 ) resolves need for CRAN package `DBI` as #r2u binary and fetches @duckdb universe build.
New #r2u feature: Install r-universe 'jammy' binaries with full resolution of binaries from #r2u .deb binaries!
Quick example installs `tiledb` from r-universe (a micro release ahead of CRAN) in 27s, all binaries, using a new `littler` helper script. #rstats
Fast or slow for #rstats CI?
In Jan I blogged about a comparison between the exact same thing "tiny" (via `RPostgreSQL`, few depends) or "tidy" (`RPostgres`, more).
Updated chart from still-running weekly GHA below. Details at dirk.eddelbuettel.com/blog/2…
Waiting is a choice.
Chat*whatever thinks I am a Finance prof (nope), have degrees from Kaiserslautern (nope), LSE (nope), and UCSD (nope). But hey on the upside it didn't mangle my name.
So those machines better be learning some more.
Kudos to my colleague @jermdemo for the find.
Epic Kenji López-Alt piece on local pizza customs.
"Whether you call it party-cut, bar-style, tavern-style, Midwest thin crust, Chicago-thin or, if you’re from the Midwest, just plain “pizza,”"

Celebrating fabulous news of a re-master and re-release as one does: by watching the original at youtube.com/watch?v=_CUvkrtq…
What a landmark it was. And how timeless it is.
Excited for the re-release.
If the suit still fits… This year, we’re bringing Jonathan Demme’s groundbreaking 1984 Talking Heads concert film STOP MAKING SENSE (newly remastered in 4K!) back to theaters worldwide. #StopMakingSense2023
Things to do when my better half is off to Duke U for a few days for a workshop: a somewhat improvised mix of a pizzaladiere (Marseille) and flammkuechle (Strasbourg). Fully vegetarian. Worked out nicely. #foodcoma

Have you seen
db <- tools::CRAN_package_db()
returning N (as in nb of packages) times (currently) 67 columns. It is then used in helpers such as tools::package_dependencies() and others.
This can work on ANY operating system as R _only looks below its own RHOME dir_ so you can have /opt/R-3.6.1 and next to it /opt/R-4.2.2 each with their own package library sets (and/or a common one if you want). Most control from sourcel but you also have #rocker for #stats
And here in North America we have the boldness of Ottawa comparing rather favourably with the previous administration in Washington. As Canada is less than half the size of Germany, and about the size of California, it makes US and UK look small.

Simpler Dockerfile (indented here)
FROM eddelbuettel/r2u:jammy
RUN install.r rmarkdown DT ggplot2 Biostrings
runs in 18s 🤩
#r2u is pure magic distilled. #rstats
Yes! Now go to eddelbuettel.github.io/r2u/ and rejoice because #r2u gives you _all_ of CRAN as directly installable .deb binaries with _full_ and _automatic_ dependency resolution. Better still: thanks to `bspm` you get that as `install.packages(c("rmarkdown", "dt"))` etc #rstats
Which really truly badly sucks as the European Project is give-or-take the best thing that ever happened over there, and I am no longer part of it which is sad. Mais c'est la vie. Win some, loose some.
(Also s/Ontario/Illinois/ above. My bad.)
