Just upgraded my dad's Vista laptop from 512mb ram (ouch!!) to 2.5gb for 40 EUR. Unbelievable how he used that thing for three years.
@ananelson @kirkwy AFAIK it just works on Debian/Ubuntu, eg rJava builds reliably against the distro Java (but was years in coming), also oO
It's just Debian/Ubuntu, yes, and I don't know/care @gappy3000 that's amazing. Have your tried any? Is there any easy way to port to rpms?
@gappy3000 Debian has a good chunk of COIN-OR packaged -- see http://goo.gl/JxMGw -- so it can't be too hard to get going even on RHEL

Writing interfaces is much easier than writing the solution itself--which exists so connect it @HarlanH @gappy3000 @revodavid "Just" is key
COIN is OS so just write wrappers, eg with Rcpp @gappy3000 @revodavid port a fast quad opt solver and a convex solver to #rstats
