`r2u` is indeed an option. The 1st tweet for `r2u` showed `tidyverse` via a 1-command install on Ubuntu 20.04 (see below), it shouldn't fail on `broom`. If you have something reproducible, can you open an issue at the eddelbuettel/r2u repo? I use 22.04 day-to-day with it too.

And this happens when you add r2u aka cranapt to a brandnew 22.04 setup (and you also use `wajig` by @KayonToga as an `apt` frontend as I have for 20+ years):
