Nine months of work in to make STRICT_R_HEADERS a default in #Rcpp -- see blog post from yesterday's 1.0.8 release for more.
And really nice to see that R Core is now following in #rstats development branch. It is a better default we all should have turned on earlier.

Have started to play around with #rstats {simplermarkdown} after seeing @eddelbuettel highlighting it. Looks very promising. Would dramatically reduce build-time dependencies for packages that need a markdown vignette builder.

Here is one hit from searching for the command in the GitHub cran org and restricting to yaml files -- screenshot and source link. You likely need the step before you try to install CRAN packages such as xml2.
