Data Science. TileDB. Open Source. Quant Research. R. C++. Debian. Linux. Adjunct Clinical Professor, University of Illinois. Lots of coffee. And some running.
Congratulations to @julia_edd on completing her first day in her new gig as a *senior* programmer analyst at @jhsph_hpm, mere weeks after graduating from @policycornell.
Here is a picture of her walking into the office.
Lecture slides for my 'Data Science Programming Methods' course STAT 447 from this Fall 2021 at U of Illinois are now accessible via stat447.com covering shell (incl sed/awk), markdown, git(hub), sql, lots of #Rstats up to packaging, and Docker. Enjoy!
And here is a quick animation showing
- one command to launch the Docker container
- one command to refresh `apt` indices
- one command to install `rstan` as binary
- one command to launch #Rstats and load `rstan`
Really works as advertised 😀
Nice to see: Denmark open sources macroeconomic model used by its Ministry of Finance. Still needs GAMS (closed source) but one step at a time.

Dear Everton: I was born not too far in time and space from Juergen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, and Ralf Rangnick. I am available, I still speak German, and I bleed Fussball. What else do you need to know before I become the next EPL Manager?
Nine months of work in to make STRICT_R_HEADERS a default in #Rcpp -- see blog post from yesterday's 1.0.8 release for more.
And really nice to see that R Core is now following in #rstats development branch. It is a better default we all should have turned on earlier.

That. Is. Rather. Flattering.
Of course, other STAT 447 course evaluation comments were saltier including "this course should be in Python". No matter what we write in syllabus or course websites, someone will skip it and be sad for it.

Thanks, Rblpapi is niche, but if you are in trading and investments, it is golden and hits the spot. Thanks also to co-authors @john_laing and Whit Armstrong.
We were told that it is nicer than the #Python package for Bloomberg but I can't speak to that.
