Migrating away from GitHub, for core functionality at least, is a lot easier that migrating from Slack.

Depends on if you count issues, pull request history, etc. as 'core functionality'. Most people do.

True. There are APIs to get most of that information out (ditto for Slack), but it's not particularly straightforward.
