Last time I checked, it relied on a proprietary locked service, but perhaps they've fixed that since. If so then yes asciinema is pretty. Otherwise there are more Free/Libre solutions out there, just not as slick.

The whole project (recorder, server, js player) has been open-source from the beginning (2011) ;)
