I found a good way to improve the speed of ikiwiki rendering is to ensure your timezone is properly configured: +timezone: ":/etc/localtime" In your setup file can help a HUGE amount.
Mostly I'm too lazy to work out if it's safe to upgrade. I don't think I do anything odd, but you know me...
I appear to be running 0a1d06d6ecea1c6ebda980fb91339fe0363ff52f which is a commit on my own branch.
