I agree. Individual offices where people can work alone in peace are far better. Irc or modern equivalents are plenty for collaboration

For an operational team it’s useful to keep the group together to be able to discuss things (esp. with πŸ”₯). Having to shout doesn’t help.

that's what a meeting room is for. Though for an operations team I suppose a single office with N desks might be better. Whiteboards, status dashboards on tvs etc.

Yes, the latter is better. Having to move everyone to a meeting room (which might not be available) isn’t usually practical.

Our corner of the office already has all the TVs with dashboards, desks set up for comfort. During a crisis people need to work effectively.

Even in non-crisis situations it’s useful for operational people to discuss things regularly, without distracting other teams.
