Rapid e-mail search is a similar problem to faultless printing experiences. No matter our advancement, it's basically impossible.

Well, I mean, except for those of us with mairix or notmuch. We can search our email pretty well :-D

I used dovecot and solr. Seems to work fine for tens of thousands of emails.
