While security updates require reboots, security updates will not be applied. This is utterly inevitable and the industry's job to solve.

I imagine that this only holds true for core apple applications, but that is a good sign. People follow Apple sometimes.

No, the Cocoa frameworks make this fairly pervasive. Obviously not as easy if you use, say, Qt.
