While security updates require reboots, security updates will not be applied. This is utterly inevitable and the industry's job to solve.

Desktops end up embodying *so* *much* *state* that it's hard to see how we can do that well tbh

We either need apps to become good at persisting state for reboot; or we need to reduce state held in apps. Android is a start.
