that's for Level 0, so they can deliver. Higher levels will solve that somehow...

Yeah, but I have... erm... 5 MUAs regularly attached to my mail, 6 if you include webmail. Many have at least 2 (laptop+phone).

my hunch (totally off top of my head) is they could have a QR code system to safely copy private keys between clients?

Or just have clients negotiate via the shared (IMAP) data store
