I'm not convinced that can work like that, given if it were down then you couldn't install it to check.

Also all the tool checks is *your* ability to reach github, not whether or not it's down. bloody javascript weenies.

Oh, God, yes. I'd forgotten npm encourages the use of source control to distribute build artefacts :(.
